Travel Consultations & Vaccinations

What is included in a travel health consultation?

We provide one-on-one review of your health history, travel destination, and full itinerary to recommend and provide the right vaccines, prescriptions, and travel health tips.

How far in advance should I book my appointment before travel?

Ideally, book at least 6–8 weeks before your trip. This allows time for vaccines to take effect. If you’re leaving sooner, we can still help with last-minute protection.

Do you provide routine immunizations as well?

Our focus is on travel health, but we can also review and update your routine immunizations at the travel consultation appointment.

Which vaccines do you provide?

We provide travel-specific and non publicly funded vaccines including Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis, Rabies (pre-exposure), Yellow Fever, Shingrix, & HPV9.

Can you prescribe medications for malaria or altitude sickness?

Yes — our Nurse Practitioner can prescribe travel medications such as malaria prophylaxis, antibiotics, Dukoral, and altitude sickness medication.

Do you offer TB Skin testing?

Yes, we provide TB skin tests for school, employment, and travel requirements.

Do you have access to my previous immunization records?

No we do not. Your immunization records stay at the site at which you were vaccinated. We encourage patients to contact the site where they have received previous vaccinations prior to their consultation appointment to request their immunization record. Whenever you receive an  immunization, you should report it to Algoma Public Health.

Travel Health Kits

What's the difference between Basic, Adventure, and Family Travel Kits?
  • Basic Kit: Essentials for general travel.

  • Adventure Kit: Extra items for outdoor, remote, or high-risk trips.

  • Family Kit: Child-friendly supplies and dosing tools for families with kids.

How do I order a travel health kit?

You can order during your consultation or through our website.

Do the kits include prescription medications?

No, prescriptions are not included in the kits by default. If needed, they can be prescribed during a consultation and added separately.

Are the kits airline travel-friendly?

Yes, all items are travel-size and TSA/airline compliant.

Do you offer free shipping and pickup?

Yes, all local delivery is free in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. We also offer in-store pickup.

Student/
Employment
Forms

Do you complete student health forms for school or college programs?

Yes. We assist students with required health forms for nursing, healthcare, college, and university programs, including immunization records, blood requisitions and Tuberculosis testing.

What is a TB skin test?

A TB (Tuberculosis) skin test helps determine if you have been exposed to tuberculosis. A small amount of testing solution is injected under the skin, and the site is checked after 48–72 hours.

How many visits are required for a TB skin test?

Two visits: one to place the test, and one to “read” the result after 48–72 hours. Some students may require a two-step test, which involves four visits.

Can you provide documentation for my school once testing is complete?

Yes. We will provide official documentation for your program’s requirements once all tests and vaccinations are completed.

How much notice do I need to book a TB test before my forms are due?

We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks before your deadline, especially if a two-step TB test is required, to allow enough time for completion.
Also consider that you must wait at least 4 weeks after a TB test before receiving any live vaccines.

Do you order blood work to check immunity?

Yes! During your appointment we can review your immunization record and order blood work to check immunity before providing any missing vaccines required for your program.

GLP-1 Medication

What are GLP-1 medications used for?

At our clinic, GLP-1 medications are prescribed to support weight management and certain metabolic health needs. They work by helping regulate blood sugar, appetite, and digestion.

What happens during a GLP-1 consultation?

Once you complete the screening with the RN, the NP will review your eligibility, explain how the medication works, provide education on safe use and injection techniques, and discuss monitoring and follow-up.

Are GLP-1 medications covered by OHIP or insurance?

They are not covered by OHIP. Some private insurance plans may cover GLP-1 medications; we recommend checking with your provider.

Do I need a consultation before starting GLP-1 medications?

Yes. Our Nurse Practitioner will assess your health history, current medications, and goals to ensure GLP-1 treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
